Library Content Vault (LCV)
An advanced, next generation Digital Preservation System
LCV is a distributed platform for aggregating and preserving content stored in ContentDM, DSpace, Fedora, and other repositories. It is designed to scale across an unlimited number of servers in multiple geographies.
Since the completion of the first phase of our Digital Preservation System, we have looked to the future and envisioned what a more comprehensive system could do. The limitations of any typical database system quickly became apparent – scale was a problem, as was offsite replication. We went back to the drawing board and decided to build Library Content Vault.
Here is our prototype:
- LCV is not limited to ContentDM, but talks to several major repositories and is fully extensible
- LCV is unlimited in scale because it grows horizontally across however many servers are required
- It distributes data intelligently across many sites, ensuring that a given number of copies of all data exist in different locations
- It incorporates Automatic Image Matching for all ingested objects, instantly matching original images with display copies
- LCV uses a flexible database system that allows customers to access their aggregated content however they choose
- Content can be exported or ingested at any site, and will flow to all others
Please contact us if you want more information about Library Content Vault. It is alpha stage software that is not ready for release, but we hope to be staging it within six months. If your institution is interested in beta testing we’d love to hear from you.
